The Chocolate Festival is taking place on the 24 and 25th March 2018, this is our tenth annual festival in Ramsbottom. The outdoor festival opens at 9:30am and closes at 5:00pm Saturday and 4:00pm on Sunday. The indoor food and craft Market inside the Civic Hall is open from 9:30am to 2:30pm.
This year we have a wide range of traders including your traditional chocolate bar and chocolate gift markers through to the quirkier traders such as the Ice Alchemists who roll amazing chocolate and icecream on a ice pad right in front of you.
We have many of our favourite and regular traders returning along with some newbies - keep an eye on our facebook page where we are running regular posts introducing our traders.
The Market is bursting with Chocolate, Chocolate Wine, Chocolate Cheese, Chocolate Brownies, Chocolate bath products, Chocolate Cakes, Chocolate Truffles, Chocolate Cookies, Chocolate Ice Cream, Chocolate Liquers, Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Marshmallows, Chocolate Scones, Chocolate Flapjacks, Hot Chocolate, Chocolate Puddings... You get the drift! It is a chocoholics dream come true!
We also have a wide range of hot street food with gourmet burgers, noodles, yorkshire pudding wraps, toasties, drinks wise you can visit the Gin Truck from Molly the Gin Meister, a Prosescco Wagon or Hot Chocolate Liquers. Fancy something hot and sweet... We have Dutch Pancakes, Belgian Waffles, Crepes, and a Nutella Donut Wagon. We have rides and entertainment in Town including Lancashire Hawks and Owls, the Dog's Trust and the RSPB.
Easter Rock Hunt
This year we are holding an Easter Rock Hunt in partnership with Rammy Rocks. We will be hiding in Town very, very early Saturday and Sunday mornings special rocks to find... find the special rocks and exchange them for an Easter Egg. If you haven't already heard of Rammy Rocks then it is a popular local craze of rock hunting, there will be rocks hidden in Town but a special hunt will be taking place at the festival. Rammy Rocks have a stall on the Saturday Car Park where you can talk to the founders of the Rammy Rocks group and do some rock painting of your own. To learn more about Rammy Rocks read on further down this page...
We have a gin Truck in Town Molly the Gin Meister and a Prosecco Truck too.
On Saturday we have Tower FM joining us live at the event, you will find them in the Town Centre meeting traders and visitors.
Just like last year the festival is taking over the Town Centre so you will not only find stalls on the original site of Bridge Street but also at Market Place, Inside the Civic Hall, Bridge Street, Church Gardens and on the Saturday Market Car Parks. Please try and wander around as much of Town as possible. Bridge Street does get very busy but there is plenty more to explore around Town. You will find lots of Stewards in High Vis Vests who can direct you to various points around the Town.
Ramsbottom is packed full of independent shops, cafes and bars so is most definitely worth a wander.
Our new map shows you the various points around Town where you will find stalls, food, entertainment and rest areas.
The Steam Train will be running over the weekend from the East Lancashire Railway so you can hop aboard a Steam Train or go and take a look at them on the Bridge or Platform - you can find out more about the Steam Train on the East Lancashire Website
Driving and Parking:
By Car: We are just minutes from the M66. The address for your sat nav for Market Place which is a fairly central point is, Market Place, Ramsbottom BL0 9HT.
Park and Ride:
There will be limited parking spaces available during the weekend and so we would urge you to use the Park and Ride facility at Woodhey High School. This has been run for a number of years and is always very successful. You park your car at the School for a fee of just £2 for the day (per car) then hop on one of our free coaches that run all day. The last coach leaves Town at 4pm. The car park closes at 5pm. You can find the car park at Woodhey High School, Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom, BL0 9QZ.
There is a car park which is free to the rear of the Grants Arms Pub/Civic Hall, there are also other free Car Parks around Town such as at Railway Street, Ramsbottom, BL0 9AL. Spaces will be very limited during the weekend of the Festival. There is limited street parking - always check signage for the duration of parking permitted. During the weekend of the Chocolate Festival street parking is suspended in a number of places, we would urge you to leave the very limited street parking for Residents and use the Park and Ride Service at Woodhey.
By Steam Train:
The Steam Train Station is at Railway Street just at the bottom of Bridge Street and so is a perfect way to arrive at the Festival. When leaving the Station you will be able to see the tents and marquees leading up the Street.
There are a number of buses which run to Ramsbottom from the surrounding areas, visit transport for Greater Manchester's website for the latest times, or Rosso Bus Services
If you haven't been to Ramsbottom lately then be prepared to be swept in by the Rammy Rock Craze! Look them up on facebook and you will find a group Started by Local mum's Sigrid and Helen this amazing group have encouraged people to paint and decorate rocks hiding them around Ramsbottom, once you find a rock you can keep it and replace with one you have painted or rehide it for others to find - It is really good fun - the children really enjoy painting and finding them - the Town is basically one big treasure hunt these days with them planted around the Town Centre, at Nuttall Park and up Holcombe Hill - they are basically everywhere - take a look at the group on facebook and don't forget to post pictures of your finds.
